Located in
Lincoln County. Population: (2000) 123. Elevation: 1,310 feet.
Barnard is situated on Salt Creek, a few miles above the creeks merging with the Solomon River. Waconda Lake lies to the northwest, and Wilson Lake lies to the southwest. Both lakes offer many opportunities for outdoor recreation.
This is "post-rock" county and the stone was widely used for homes, building, bridges, and fence posts. The Vonada Stone Company near Sylvan Grove still makes stone fence posts as well as other products from "post rock".
The county is largely open range and is considered a good grazing county. It has never been a very productive corn county. Winter wheat, however, is more to be relied upon and is consequently the favorite crop of the farmers.
The county celebrates Lincoln's Birthday in a really big way on President's Day Weekend in the town of Lincoln! The annual Lincoln County Fair is held each year during the last week of July in Sylvan Grove.
