Pop. (2000) 4602 Elev. of 840 feet. Baxter Springs is located in
Cherokee County, in the
Southeast Region of the state. In the most southeastern corner of the state along US Highway 66, (Route 66), near
Columbus and
Oswego.
Incorporated in 1869, as a city of the second class; and at that time it was, by far, the most important place in the county. The site of Baxter Springs could scarcely be excelled in any country. It is neither level nor very hilly. Situated on the west side of Spring River, in the southeast corner of Cherokee County.
