River length: 52 miles. This river is part of the Lower Arkansas River Drainage Basin of Kansas. Formed by the joining of Sand creek and another small stream in the southern part of Kingman County. Chikaskia river's general course is southeast, through the southeast corner of Harper County and through Sumner County, crossing the southern boundary of the state near the town of Hunnewell, and finally emptying into the salt fork of the Arkansas near the town of Tonkawa.

Best of south central region streams and one of best high plains streams. This river has good seasonal canoeing, high water quality, a good fishery, excellent wildlife diversity and populations.

The community of Argonia hosts a "Horror River" - Halloween festival on the bank of this stream and River Park, with nature trails, public fishing, rodeo grounds, camping, sandy beaches, foot bridge, and picnicking.
