Derby is part of the Wichita, Kansas metro area. And is near the Arkansas River and the McConnell Air Force Base.

The county has a strong agricultural economy and is home to numerous aircraft industries. Area attractions include: The Derby Historical Museum, an annual event, "Derby Days" is held every May, late in the month. Derby hosts many city parks, all managed by the The Derby Recreation Commission.

Derby has a daily newspaper, (The Derby Reporter). While a comfortable mid-western small city, Derby is a vibrant and modern suburban community with it's own identity.
