Founded: 1886, Population: (2000) 1,885, Elevation: 2235 ft. Located in the
Southwest Region of the state, in
Kiowa County, (county seat) and southeast of
Dodge City along US Highway 54 and 183. Greensburg is served by the Southern Pacific railroad. Farming, oil and gas are the main bases for the local economy.
Named for stagecoach driver D. R. "Cannonball" Green, who was elected Kiowa County's first representative in the Kansas legislature in 1889.
Attractions include: A golf course, swimming pool, Kiowa County State Fishing Lake, Five parks, "The Big well", a local museum, quaint buildings and nostalgic business settings. The Twilight Theatre, an historic theatre which first showed silent films in 1915. At one time it boasted one of the largest screens in Kansas.
