Founded: 1886 Population (year 2000): 1,967, Elevation: 1082 ft. Horton is located in the Northeast Region of the state, in Brown County. This crossroads town is East of the Kickapoo Nation Indian Reservation with they're casinos.

The community was founded in 1886 by the Chicago, Kansas & Nebraska Railway building a line through Horton. The CK&N Railway was a subsidiary of the Rock Island railroad. The town population was cut by one-half when the railroads' maintenance shops finally closed in 1946.
