of the state, in Brown County
. This crossroads town is East of the Kickapoo Nation Indian Reservation with they're casinos.
The community was founded in 1886 by the Chicago, Kansas & Nebraska Railway building a line through Horton. The CK&N Railway was a subsidiary of the Rock Island railroad. The town population was cut by one-half when the railroads' maintenance shops finally closed in 1946.
