Founded: 1872, Population: 979, Elevation: 1776 ft. Mankato is the county seat of Jewell County. This town is near Lowell Reservoir and Waconda Lake. Located just north of US36 and with an unusually attractive downtown displaying many historic rock and brick buildings.

Threshing Bee grounds are North of the city park that house antique tractors, engines and machinery. This is where the Threshing Bee is held on the 3rd weekend in July. Also on the 3rd Saturday in October the Historical Society hosts a Farmers Market featuring craft displays, food, etc.
