Marion Kansas

Dubbed "The Stone City" in the 1880's for its many ornate limestone structures.

Founded: 1860, Population: 1906, Elevation: 1307 ft.

Marion is located in Marion County and is the county seat. Situated near the junction of Muddy Creek, Clear Creek, and the Cottonwood River. The first settlers arrived in 1860 and made their first camp at the location of the present Central Park. The downtown area is notable for some fine old buildings. You'll find a friendly, uncrowded, inexpensive place to relax. The natural beauty of the area's hills, lakes, streams, trees, and parks is inviting while offering some of the finest fishing and hunting to be found.

  • Chingawassa Days: June 20, 21 & 22. Annual festival with carnival, food booths, street dance, quilt show, entertainment, sky divers, air show, hot air balloons and much, much more! Call 620/382-3703 for a brochure
  • Central Park is also the site of "Art in the Park" on the third Saturday in September,
  • 'Old Settlers' Day is the fourth Saturday in September
