Over 100 years ago the Sisters of St. Joseph of
Wichita opened Mt. Carmel Hospital to serve the needs of area coal miners and their families.
In 2000, the Medical Center began a new expansion project including construction of a new Regional Heart Center, Outpatient Surgery Center, Emergency Department and expanded Diagnostic Imaging Center including a state-of-the-art MRI, enlarged Laboratory, Pharmacy and Occupational Health Services.
Keeping with the Medical Center's evolving role as a regional health care provider, Mt. Carmel changed its name to Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in 2001. Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center is accredited by the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and holds memberships in the American Hospital Association, the Kansas Hospital Association and the Catholic Health Association.
