Founded: 1878, Pop.: (2000) 1524, Elev.: 2251 Ft

Located in Ness County, (County Seat), at the intersection of Hwy's K-96 and US-283 and served by the Central Kansas Railway. A busy and attractive downtown attracts shoppers from a wide region. Oil production, farming, and ranching are all important to the local economy. Unique among the towns of Kansas in that during the era of population shift to metropolitan areas, Ness City has grown and stabilized.

There's a nice city park west of downtown, a good place for travelers to stretch their legs. Most of the first settlers were buffalo hunters who had seen the area and came back to settle.

The city has year-round recreational programs designed for all ages. Softball leagues operate during the summer, educational and exercise programs during the winter. This part of Kansas is famous for its pheasant hunting and nearby lakes, (Cedar Bluff Reservoir and Goodman State Fishing Lake & Wildlife Area), bring serious fishermen.
