Founded in 1855, Current Population: 106,000, Elev.: 1040 ft. Olathe is located in Johnson County, (of which it is the county seat). Olathe is southeast of Lawrence along Interstate 35 and near Kansas City. Olathe is part of the Kansas City, Missouri-Kansas metro area. Olathe is the second largest among the 21 communities in prosperous Johnson County, and the fifth largest city in the state. Outdoor recreation offers a variety of activities, including bicycling, fishing, boating, team sports. The Olathe area is popular for hot-air ballooning and sailboarding and has two public lakes: Olathe Lake with 172 acres of water surface, and Cedar Lake with 45 acres.
