Olathe Public Library, serving an area of 92,000 residents, has a collection of 200,000 books and periodicals; in addition, there are 7,800 CDs, records, cassettes and other audio materials, as well as 16,800 video items, such as DVDs and VHS tapes. Staffing consists of 48 employees, of whom 34 are fully accredited librarians, plus volunteers. The system comprises one central library and one branch library. Annual expenditures on the library collection total $420,000. Patrons make 440,000 visits annually, and check out materials 1,200,000 times. Fifty-four percent of all check-outs are children's materials.

Heart of America Shakespeare Festival Kansas City MO June18-July7 The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival is set under the stars in South Moreland Park near Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. It is a perfect way to spend a summer evening with family and friends. They have several programs to study and explore such as Speaker's Bureau and Poster and Sonnet Contest. The faculty includes theatre professionals, actors, and educators experienced in performing and teaching Shakespeare. Many of the instructors are veterans of festival productions.
