South Haven Kansas

Founded in 1872, Elevation: 1121 feet, Population: 390 (2000). South Haven is located in Sumner County, at the junction of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe and the Kansas Southwestern railroads, 14 miles south of Wellington, the county seat.

South Haven is one of the Cherokee Strip border towns that benefitted from the 1893 Native American land grab authorized by congress. The opening of the Cherokee strip to settlement was an event for which the adjacent towns had long worked, propagandized, and invested. In return they expected substantial city growth and economic prosperity.
