The Sedgwick County Zoo was opened in 1971 and is home to more than 2,500 animals of nearly 500 different species. It conducts many conservation projects, educational programs, and research works. A gift shop and a veterinary hospital functions as an extension work of the zoo. The hospital is devoted to surgery, x-ray, animal treatment, pharmacy, small and large animal holding, intensive care, isolation and animal diet preparation.
