Wallace Kansas

Founded: 1869, Population: 67, Elevation: 3311. Wallace is located in Wallace County between Sharon Springs and McAllaster along US Highway 40 near the Smoky Hill River. A fort, a town, and a county were named for General William H. L. Wallace who was fatally wounded April 10, 1862 at the battle of Shiloh. The post cemetery is all that's left of old Fort Wallace. The Pond Creek Station, (Listed on the National Register of Historic Places), is a public museum just east of Wallace on US Hwy-40.
