Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest

Established in 1929 by Isaac W. Bernheim, this forest and nationally-recognized arboretum covering 14,000 acres was granted as a gift to the people of Kentucky as an expression of gratitude. The Landscape Arboretum contains more than 2,000 labled varieties of plants, with an emphasis on hollies and dwarf conifers, surrounded by ornamental gardens. The site's visitor center includes a museum and nature center where various educational programs are offered. Other features include 30 miles of nature trails providing recreation for hikers, and serene lakes that offer habitat for waterfowl.

Grounds open daily until dusk, visitor center closes at 5pm; closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
