Comments: Avery Island is a great place to visit if you love nature. Exotic plants from all over the world, trees, animals abound. Take a picnic with you and meander the acres by car, getting out to walk at times. The ancient huge buddha nestled near a pretty pond and bridge is a wonderful attraction . Deer, nutria, alligators, and the gorgeous egrets are beautiful to observe. The bird santuary with the thousands of egrets that nest and live there are fun to watch. The young and old birds stay during the day on manmade platforms of sticks to feed while the adult birds leave and go for miles along the coast feeding. They leave the island feeding for the too old or the too young birds. It is an awe inspiring sight to stay until the sun begins to go down and watch thousands of egrets returning to their home from every direction from the sky. Even if you stay after closing time, the gates remain opened until you exit.
