Each weekday over 30,000 cars cross Lake Pontchartrain on the longest bridge in the world, The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. The most familiar part of the system is the 24-mile long bridge which consists of two, 2-lane spans running parallel across Lake Pontchartrain connecting Jefferson Parish on the south shore at Metairie and St. Tammany Parish on the north shore at Mandeville.
