Henry Neubig paints his homeland of Louisiana, using pigments derived by mining the soils of that very region, thus establishing a unique palette. The inspiration for this comes from artists of centuries past, who, not having the option of utilizi ng mass-produced pigments from all over the world, were necessarily limited in the same way that Neubig chooses to limit himself. But perhaps limit is too strong a word, for the palette is broad, vivid and evocative, as his works depicting florals, swampscapes, architecture and animals demonstrate.
