New Orleans City ParkLouisiana's Family Playground |
More than a century ago, philanthropist John McDonogh, a well-known benefactor of public education in New Orleans, bestowed a 100-acre tract of land to the city for a park. Today, City Park has evolved into the 5th largest urban park in the nation, encompassing 1,500 acres in the historic New Orleans Trace. The park boasts magnificent oak trees and botanical garden, picturesque statues and fountains, sports and recreational facilities, and historic buildings,- once the site of Allard Plantation. Home of the New Orleans Museum of Art and the largest collection of mature live oaks in the world. Spanning the transition in art and architecture between Neo-Classical revival and Art Deco styles, the park's bridges, buildings and outdoor sculptures are a constant source of delight to visitors.
