Oakdale is located in Allen Parish within the Cajun Country Region, between Kinder and Alexandria along US Hwy 165 near Oberlin, Glenmora, the West Bay Wildlife Management Area and the Calcasieu River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 7,769, an increase of 932 since 1990.
