Ponchatoula is located in Tangipahoa Parish within the Greater New Orleans Region east of Baton Rouge, between Hammond and Laplace along Highway 22 near Covington, Lake Maurepais and Lake Pontchartrain. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,920, an increase of 421 since 1990.
