The commune of Beaufort, population 1,552, is located on the Grand Duchy of Luxembourgs eastern border with Germany, in the Little Switzerland region. Beaufort is internationally famous for brewing a liqueur made from blackcurrants, called Cassero. It is also known for two castles, one ruined. The ruin is a gigantic fortress with a keep, which stood from the 12-16th century. Located in a valley, near a lake, it was restored in 1930 in order to make it safe to enter, and to make it easier to approach. The castle which still stands was commissioned by the Lord of Beaufort in 1647.

Beaufort (population 1,372), Dillingen, and Grundhof are boroughs within the commune of Beaufort.
