The history of the Chatham Drama Guild goes back over 70 years. Its current location was the result of "a complicated succession of bequests" but without a building. That came at no charge in the form of a barn which had to be dismantled board by board and gradually transported to the new site where it was reassembled over time in an improved configuration for dramatic presentations. During this time performances were given in the high school auditorium or the town theater. The Guild building later was enlarged and improved with add-on space so that larger full-scale dramas could be staged.
