Crane & Co.'s Old Stone Mill was built in 1844, on the grounds of Pioneer Mill. Since 1879 Crane & Company has the distinction of being the sole producer of all the rag paper on which United States Currency is printed. In 1930 the Old Stone Mill was converted into a spacious one-room museum in which the evolution of American papermaking can be traced. The Museum exhibits offer a fascinating glimpse into the history of papermaking, a history that continues to have major economic impact on the region and on the country in general.
