Emerson College is dedicated exclusively to communication and the arts. It is located in downtown Boston, near the Theatre District and is in close proximity to major media outlets. It also has facilities in Los Angeles and the Netherlands. From its beginnings in 1880 as a small school of oratory, it is now a multi-faceted college that is internationally recognized in its fields of specialization, such as communication, marketing, journalism, performing arts, visual and media arts, and writing and publishing. The College enrolls some 2,600 full-time undergraduates and 600 full-time graduate students in its School of the Arts and School of Communication. Among its distinguished alumni are producers Norman Lear, Kevin Bright (Friends) and Max Mutchnick (Will and Grace); actors Henry Winkler, Denis Leary and Richard Dysart; talk show host Jay Leno; journalist Morton Dean; Boston broadcasters Pam Cross, Susan Wornick and Ed Harding; and entrepreneur and makeup artist Bobbi Brown.
