The Erich Lindemann Mental Health Center (ELMHC)is a 12-bed inpatient unit dedicated to clinical research through the Commonwealth Research Center (CRC), a project of the Department of Psychiatry of Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. This effort involves clinical neurobiological research into the causes of severe mental illness and treatments for people with these disorders. ELMHC is a Research and Evaluation Unit providing support for these studies. Investigations include neuropharmacological, neuropsychological, epidemiological, neuroimaging and family genetics techniques. Populations under study include those with: first episode psychosis; schizophrenia and comorbid substance use disorder; chronic psychosis; bipolar disorder.
