Mount Holyoke College |
It took more than a century for the U.S. Constitution to catch up with the vision of Mary Lyon, a social revolutionary whose dreams of higher education for women led, after she overcame incredible opposition, to the establishment of Mt. Holyoke Female Seminary in 1837. Since that time, Mt. Holyoke College has become a respected institution for intellectual growth and a leader in women's education. Both student body and faculty are a diverse mix of race and nationality.
Mount Holyoke enrolls approximately 2,000 students, offering 44 departmental and interdisciplinary majors.
A Five College Consortium with Amherst, Hampshire, and Smith Colleges, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst pool their resources to offer 5,000+ courses, vast academic resources, several hundred clubs and organizations, as well as a rich array of parties, lectures, concerts, and athletic events. 30,000+ students are enrolled at the five institutions. Free bus service connects the campuses.
