This refuge, owned by the US Navy, provides a habitat for migrating birds and nesting for colonial waterbirds. It is a resting and feeding area for migrating peregrine falcons. The island is closed to public use. It serves as a sanctuary for migratory birds. This refuge is a non-staffed satellite for the Great Meadows NWR.
