The Race Point Lighthouse was established in 1816, its present conical 45-foot tower was built in 1876 and automated in 1978. Construction is cast iron with brick lining. It is in active operation, with flashing white light every 10 seconds and a fog signal which began as a bell and whistle and now gives two blasts every 60 seconds.
The property is restored and maintained by the Cape Cod Chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation.
The grounds are open all year, and the keeper's house is available for overnight stays from spring through fall. Parking is available at Race Point Beach and there is about a 45-minute walk to the lighthouse.
