Silvio O. Conte National Wildlife Refuge

Search Turners Falls Massachusetts

The Silvio O. Conte National Wildlife Refuge is part of the Connecticut River Watershed, 7.2 million acres extending into four states: Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont. Most NWRs are primarily concerned with protecting their natural environments. The Conte NWR is also part of the larger National Fish and Wildlife Refuge (NFWR), which expands its importance as a refuge.

Because of the Watershed's dense population, the staff which operates and maintains the Conte NWR seeks the broader goal of involving the people of the watershed, especially landowners and land managers, in environmental education programs and cooperative management projects as part of its environmental protection function.
