Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) is located on the 55-acre Springfield Armory National Historic Site, selected by George Washington for the nation's first arsenal. Thirty five of these acres comprise the campus of STCC, a combination of old brick buildings, the oldest dating to 1808, and new modern structures of classrooms and labs. In 1967, from an initial enrollment of 400 and a faculty of 20, STCC is now considered to be one of the largest and most comprehensive community colleges in the Commonwealth. STCC offers 40 associate degree programs with 25 options and 25 certificate programs to nearly 7,000 students in Day Division and School of Continuing Education. It offers computer hardware facilities of university-level quality, and a seven-floor biological sciences building, gymnasium, and theater complex, are among its many impressive academic buildings.
