Salem State College is a comprehensive, publicly supported institution of higher learning located 21 miles north of Boston. Salem State is a community of learners which, in light of its commitment to teaching, research, and scholarship, fosters the intellectual, aesthetic, and personal development of its members in serving the citizens of the Commonwealth and the larger global community.

Salem State confers Bachelor's and Master's Degrees as well as Certificates of Advanced Graduate Study. Master's Degrees account for almost one-third of the total granted.

Almost half the declared majors are in the fields of Business and Education. The student/faculty ratio for Salem State's total enrollment of over 8000 is about 16:1.
