Nelson River

The river begins at the NE corner of Lake Winnipeg and flows north and northeast for some 400 miles into Hudson Bay at York Factory. It was discovered in 1612 by Sir Thomas Button. In 1670, the Hudson's Bay Company established a post at its mouth and the river was important in the fur trade for many years afterward.
