This basilica, dedicated in 1821, is the oldest cathedral in the United States. The building is highlighted by nine outstanding stained glass windows; the 'Angelus' is still sounded morning and evening on historic bells in the south clock tower. The structure was designed by architect Benjamin Henry Latrobe.
The cathedral is open Monday-Friday; guided tours are given Sundays at mid-day and by appointment.
