Located off North Charles Street, this university is a small, private liberal arts university founded in 1876 as a graduate research institution. Today the university boasts one of the first medical schools in the country. The 140 acre campus was originally the estate of Charles Carroll Jr., son of Charles Carroll, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Tours of the campus can be arranged at the Admissions Office on Garland Hall.
