Located at the south end of the inlet on the boardwalk; the museum is housed within the recently rescued and restored 'coast system' Life-Saving Station, circa 1892; the historic building was in active use by the Life-Saving Service, and later the US Coast Guard, until 1962.
Permanent exhibits outline the intertwined histories of the 1891 station and Ocean City, including many unforgettable area shipwrecks and memorable rescues. Other displays include early lifesaving equipment and related artifacts; miniature models of authentic old-time area hotels, beach fashion, and differently-colored sand specimens from other beaches worldwide; early photograph collections featuring the particularly momentous storms of 1933 and 1962.
Open daily Saturday and Sunday only through the winter season. A museum store operates at the site; free parking.
