National Capital Trolley Museum |
This museum, located in Northwest Branch Park, preserves and interprets the colorful history of Washington's electric street railways. The museum's collections showcase 17 streetcars from Washington DC and other locations; many of these historic cars are still operated on a one-mile demonstration railway. Other highlights include an O-scale model layout of a 1930s Washington street scene, car houses, and a visitor's center, as well as a video program and traditional exhibits of street railway artifacts and photos.
School group tours are offered by reservation; contact Anne Piccoli at 301-384-6352. The museum is open weekends January 2-November 30; also Thursdays and Fridays, March 15-November 15. No daytime operations in December.
