National Wildlife Visitor Center |
This center, located on the 12,750 acre Patuxent Research Refuge, is the largest science and environmental education center in the Department of the Interior. Interactive and educational exhibits focus on global environmental issues, migratory bird routes, wildlife habitats and endangered species recovery efforts. The Center highlights the work of professional scientists striving to improve the condition of our wildlife and their native habitats; many exhibits interpret the research tools and techniques they use.
Hiking trails, demonstration areas, and outdoor education sites for school classes as well as a large auditorium are available on the Visitor Center grounds. Group tours and a variety of public educational programs are offered; open daily.
