In Prince Georges County, Oxon Hill is part of the Washington metro area.
Since the 17th century, Oxon Hill has been associated with the estate belonging to the Addison family, long prominent in southern Maryland history. The present manor was built in the 1920s for Sumner Welles, President Franklin Roosevelt's undersecretary of state.
Oxon Hill is south of the city center on Hwy 210, where I-295 ends.
