One of only 11 Naval museums in the country that is chartered by the Secreatary of the Navy, the Museum is dedicated to the history of research development and the testing and evaluation of Navy aircraft. One of the finest museums in the Navy, it preserves the heritage and interprets the history of RDT&E of Naval Aviation by collecting and communicating that history to Navy personnel and the public.
The museum offers hands-on displays, a wide-screen video presentation, full-scale aircraft an d a flight trainer to help educate visitors about the process of testing military flight equipment. Outside, 17 display aircraft which have either been tested at Patunxet River (or represent models which have) can be viewed up close, including the A-4 Skyhawk, F-4 Phantom II, and the F-14A Tomcat.
