St. John's College

Located on College Avenue, this college received its charter in 1784, succeeding the 1696 King William's School. The school offered a traditional liberal arts education until 1937 when it adopted a curriculum based on study of the classics. Francis Scott Key was among the students of St. John's.

McDowell Hall, one of two principal classroom buildings on the campus, is believed to be the third oldest academic building in the country.
