UMBC is a medium-sized, selective, public research university that attracts high-achieving students to its undergraduate and graduate programs in the liberal arts, sciences and engineering. The College of Arts & Sciences and the College of Engineering degree programs include 30 majors, 34 minors, 24 areas of concentration, 11 pre-professional and allied health programs, and 7 certificate programs. The Graduate School offers 24 master's degrees and 18 doctoral programs, and a variety of credit and non-credit programs and custom workplace training through the Professional Learning Institute.
