Established in 1845 by Navy Secretary George Bancroft, the academy occupies the site of old Fort Severn. Tours and information are available at the Arme-Leftwich Visitor Center, which features interactive exhibits, a film and guided walking tours; food is available. Grounds are open daily 9am-5pm.
