Caribou is located in Aroostook County, of which it is the county seat, just north of Presque Isle between Presque Isle and the United States/Canada state line along US Highway 1 on the banks of the Aroostook River near the Saint Johns River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 7,910, a decrease of 1,505 since 1990.
