This historic site covers 27 acres, highlighted by buildings which represent several periods of reconstruction in the life of Fort McClary. This colonial fort provides visitors with insight into the beginnings of coastal Maine's strong maritime background.
The fort was active during five wars, beginning with the American Revolution; originally constructed in the late 17th century, the structure was then upgraded to meet area defensive needs in later years. Picnic facilities and hiking trails add to the site's recreational opportunities available. Open daily until dusk, from Memorial Day through the end of September.
