Battle Creek is located in
Calhoun County, and in the
West-Southwest Region. This community is located southwest of
Lansing between
Kalamazoo and
Jackson. It lies along Interstate 94 on the banks of the Battle River.
Settled in 1831, Battle Creek became the home of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in the mid- to late 1800s. The Adventists' emphasis on health reform inspired the city's cereal food enterprises and sanitarium. One of Battle Creek's original breakfast food entrepreneurs, John Harvey Kellogg, supervised development of the well-known Battle Creek Sanitarium.
Battle Creek is called the breakfast food capital of the world. It is the home of Kellogg Company, Kraft General Foods, Post Division; and Ralston Foods. Places to visit include the Art Center of Battle Creek, Fort Custer National Cemetery and Battle Creek Linear Park, a 17-mile paved pathway that links natural waterways and city parks.
Battle Creek is part of the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek, Michigan metro area.
