Berrien Springs is in Berrien County, and in the West-Southwest Region. This community is located southwest of Kalamazoo between Benton Harbor and Niles along US Highway 31 on the banks of the St Joseph River near Lake Michigan and the Indiana state line.

Settlers started arriving to the area now known as Berrien Springs in 1829. The area first had been the home of an Indian chief named Wolf and was originally named Wolf's Prairie.
