Birmingham

Birmingham is in Oakland County, and in the Southeast Region. This community is located just north of Detroit between Pontiac and Detroit along US Highway 24 near the Detroit River and Lake St Clair. Birmingham is part of the Detroit, Michigan metro area.

Birmingham was originally settled in 1819 by John Hunter and his sons. The town received a post office in 1821 under the name Bloomfield. In 1836, a Roswell T. Merrill envisioned this area to have a successful industrial future and proposed re-naming it after Birmingham, England where the industrial revolution began.

Birmingham has a great selection of modern and historical museums to view.
