Chassell is in Houghton County, and in the Northern Region. This community is located southeast of Houghton on us Hwy 41. John Chassell, founder of Chassell, taught at the Fairfield Academy in Fairfield, NY along with two of his brothers and his father who was the Principal there. He decided to leave the Academy in 1839, at the age of 25, and went into business in New York, he later moved to Houghton County. Accommodations in Chassell include Chippewa Motel.
